An introduction to the current state of the global food system and its implications for people, the environment, and our future. Topics include the benefits and drawbacks of the industrial agricultural model; food justice, food security and public health; the real-life challenges to creating a local food system; and innovative responses to meet those challenges. Students undertake research projects that follow food study models and assess the capacity of a municipality to develop a local food system. This is the credit-free offering of EVS 118. Special Requirement: Field trips required.
