Gravestone Conservation: Experiencing and Preserving History CSW 631

Feature 10 Intended for those who already have or would like to have a hand in the upkeep of their local cemeteries. You’ll learn to assess the condition of a gravestone and several methods for recording inscriptions and epitaphs.

Learn how to read, document and photograph hard to read gravestones, practice proper cleaning techinques, and rest a tablet headstone in this class. Instruction will include assessing the stone type and style, stone conditions and standard repairs, history of the American cemetery and symbolism. This is a hands-on workshop, wear work gear and expect to get dirty. Bring a bag lunch and beverage to stay for the lunch break discussion.
